Salesforce on Tuesday unveiled an entirely rebuilt version of Slackbot, the company’s long-standing workplace assistant, transforming it from a rudimentary notification tool into a sophisticated, fully powered AI agent. This significant upgrade positions Slackbot at the forefront of enterprise artificial intelligence, enabling it to search vast troves of enterprise data, draft complex documents, and execute actions on behalf of employees, fundamentally altering how professionals interact with their digital workspaces.
Now generally available to Business+ and Enterprise+ customers, the new Slackbot represents Salesforce’s most assertive move yet to embed Slack deeply within the burgeoning "agentic AI" movement. This paradigm shift envisions software agents working autonomously and collaboratively with humans to tackle intricate tasks, moving beyond mere assistance to proactive task completion. The launch is also a critical strategic play for Salesforce, as the company strives to assure investors that its substantial investment in artificial intelligence will augment its product ecosystem rather than render existing solutions obsolete.
Parker Harris, Salesforce co-founder and Slack’s chief technology officer, underscored the revolutionary nature of the overhaul in an exclusive interview with Salesforce. "Slackbot isn’t just another copilot or AI assistant," Harris declared. "It’s the front door to the agentic enterprise, powered by Salesforce."
From Tricycle to Porsche: A Ground-Up Reinvention
Harris used a vivid analogy to illustrate the stark contrast between the old and new Slackbot. "The old Slackbot was, you know, a little tricycle, and the new Slackbot is like, you know, a Porsche," he stated bluntly. This comparison highlights a fundamental architectural shift. The original Slackbot, a fixture since Slack’s inception, handled basic algorithmic functions such as reminding users to add colleagues to documents, suggesting channel archives, and delivering simple notifications. Its capabilities were limited to predefined rules and actions.
The revamped version, however, operates on an entirely different foundation. It is powered by a large language model (LLM) and sophisticated search capabilities designed to seamlessly access and synthesize information from a multitude of sources. These include Salesforce records, Google Drive files, calendar data, and years of Slack conversations. "It’s two different things," Harris explained. "The old Slackbot was algorithmic and fairly simple. The new Slackbot is brand new — it’s based around an LLM and a very robust search engine, and connections to third-party search engines, third-party enterprise data." Despite this profound technical transformation, Salesforce opted to retain the familiar "Slackbot" brand, banking on user recognition and established trust. "People know what Slackbot is, and so we wanted to carry that forward," Harris added.
Anthropic’s Claude at the Core, with Future Model Flexibility
The initial iteration of the new Slackbot leverages Claude, Anthropic’s large language model. This choice was significantly influenced by stringent compliance requirements, particularly Slack’s commercial service operating under FedRAMP Moderate certification to cater to U.S. federal government customers. Harris noted that Anthropic was "the only provider that could give us a compliant LLM" when development commenced.
However, this exclusivity is not permanent. Salesforce plans to broaden its AI model support. "We are, this year, going to support additional providers," Harris confirmed. He specifically mentioned Google, stating, "We have a great relationship with Google. Gemini is incredible — performance is great, cost is great. So we’re going to use Gemini for some things." OpenAI also remains a potential future partner. Harris echoed Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff’s perspective on the evolving AI landscape, asserting that large language models are rapidly becoming commoditized. "You’ve heard Marc talk about LLMs are commodities, that they’re democratized. I call them CPUs," he remarked, emphasizing the growing interchangeability of these foundational models.
Crucially, Salesforce maintains an unwavering stance on data privacy. Harris was unequivocal: Salesforce does not train any of its models on customer data. He elaborated on the critical security implications: "Models don’t have any sort of security. If we trained it on some confidential conversation that you and I have, I don’t want Carolyn to know — if I train it into the LLM, there is no way for me to say you get to see the answer, but Carolyn doesn’t." Unprecedented Internal Adoption and Productivity Gains
Salesforce undertook an extensive internal testing phase for months, deploying the new Slackbot to its entire workforce of 80,000 employees. The results, according to Ryan Gavin, Slack’s chief marketing officer, have been nothing short of "striking," making it "the fastest adopted product in Salesforce history."
Internal data reveals remarkable engagement: two-thirds of Salesforce employees have tried the new Slackbot, with an impressive 80% of those users continuing to use it regularly. Internal satisfaction rates soared to 96%, the highest for any AI feature Slack has ever shipped. The most compelling metric, however, is the reported time savings, with employees claiming to save between two and 20 hours per week.
The adoption process was largely organic, driven by employee enthusiasm. Gavin highlighted an example: "I think it was about five days, and a Canvas was developed by our employees called ‘The Most Stealable Slackbot Prompts.’" This collaborative document grew organically, now featuring over 250 prompts contributed by employees sharing their tips and tricks. Kate Crotty, a principal UX researcher at Salesforce, confirmed this grassroots phenomenon, finding that 73% of internal adoption was fueled by social sharing rather than top-down directives.

During a product demonstration, Amy Bauer, Slack’s product experience designer, showcased Slackbot’s advanced capabilities in synthesizing disparate information. In one scenario, she prompted Slackbot to analyze customer feedback from a pilot program, upload an image of a usage dashboard, and then correlate the qualitative and quantitative data. "This is where Slackbot really earns its keep for me," Bauer explained. "What it’s doing is not just simply reading the image — it’s actually looking at the image and comparing it to the insight it just generated for me."
Beyond analysis, Slackbot can then proactively query Salesforce to identify enterprise accounts with open deals that might be ideal candidates for early access to a new product, thereby generating a "really great justification and plan to move forward." Finally, it can consolidate all this information into a Slack Canvas — Slack’s collaborative document format — and even identify calendar availability among relevant stakeholders to schedule a review meeting.
Bauer emphasized the shift from individual interaction to collaborative work facilitated by the agent. "Up until this point, we have been working in a one-to-one capacity with Slackbot," she noted. "But one of the benefits that I can do now is take this insight and have it generate this into a Canvas, a shared workspace where I can iterate on it, refine it with Slackbot, or share it out with my team." Rob Seaman, Slack’s chief product officer, highlighted the significance of the Canvas creation, stating it signals the product’s direction: "This is making a tool call internally to Slack Canvas to actually write, effectively, a shared document. But it signals where we’re going with Slackbot — we’re eventually going to be adding in additional third-party tool calls."
Real-World Impact: MrBeast’s Company and Other Pilot Customers
Among the pilot customers for the new Slackbot was Beast Industries, the parent company of YouTube sensation MrBeast. Luis Madrigal, the company’s chief information officer, shared his experience during the launch announcement, praising the ease of deployment. "As somebody who has rolled out enterprise technologies for over two decades now, this was practically one of the easiest," Madrigal stated. He noted that his security team signed off "rather quickly," an uncommon occurrence for enterprise AI deployments, due to Slackbot’s inherent guardrails. It accesses only the information each individual user already has permission to view, ensuring data security and privacy.
The impact on productivity at Beast Industries was substantial. Sinan, the head of Beast Games marketing, reported saving "at bare minimum, 90 minutes a day," while Spencer, a creative supervisor, described Slackbot as "an assistant who’s paying attention when I’m not." Other pilot customers included Slalom, reMarkable, Xero, Mercari, and Engine. Mollie Bodensteiner, SVP of Operations at Engine, lauded Slackbot as "an absolute ‘chaos tamer’ for our team," estimating it saves her approximately 30 minutes daily by eliminating context switching.
The Battle for Enterprise AI Dominance: Slackbot vs. Microsoft Copilot vs. Google Gemini
The launch of the advanced Slackbot thrusts Salesforce into direct competition with established players like Microsoft’s Copilot, deeply integrated into Teams and the broader Microsoft 365 suite, and Google’s Gemini integrations across Workspace. When asked about Slackbot’s unique differentiators, Rob Seaman emphasized context and convenience. "The thing that makes it most powerful for our customers and users is the proximity — it’s just right there in your Slack," Seaman explained. "There’s a tremendous convenience affordance that’s naturally built into it."

The Vision: Slackbot as the Enterprise "Super Agent" Hub
Salesforce envisions Slackbot evolving into what Harris terms a "super agent" — a central hub capable of coordinating with and orchestrating other AI agents across an entire organization. "Every corporation is going to have an employee super agent," Harris predicted. "Slackbot is essentially taking the magic of what Slack does. We think that Slackbot, and we’re really excited about it, is going to be that."
This ambitious vision extends to integrating third-party agents already emerging within the Slack ecosystem. Recent examples include Anthropic’s preview of Claude Code for Slack, allowing developers to access Claude’s coding capabilities directly in chat, alongside agents built by OpenAI, Google, Vercel, and others. Rob Seaman observed, "Most of the net-new apps that are being deployed to Slack are agents. This is proof of the promise of humans and agents coexisting and working together in Slack to solve problems."
Harris also spoke of Slackbot becoming an MCP (Model Context Protocol) client, enabling it to leverage tools from across the broader software ecosystem, much like the developer tool Cursor. "Slack can be an MCP client, and Slackbot will be the hub of that, leveraging all these tools out in the world, some of which will be these amazing agents," he shared. However, Harris cautioned against over-promising on the immediate future of multi-agent coordination. "I still think we’re in the single agent world," he admitted. "FY26 is going to be the year where we started to see more coordination. But we’re going to do it with customer success in mind, and not demonstrate and talk about, like, ‘I’ve got 1,000 agents working together,’ because I think that’s unrealistic."
Pricing, Rollout, and Future Roadmap
The new Slackbot is included at no additional cost for customers subscribed to Business+ and Enterprise+ plans. "There’s no additional fees customers have to do," Gavin confirmed. "If they’re on one of those plans, they’re going to get Slackbot."
However, Salesforce’s broader data strategy may introduce other cost considerations for some enterprise customers. CIOs could face increased prices for third-party applications that rely on Salesforce data, as potential higher charges for API access ripple through the software supply chain. Fivetran CEO George Fraser has voiced concerns that Salesforce’s updated pricing policy for API access could force enterprises to adopt Salesforce Data Cloud or Agentforce instead of their preferred tools. Salesforce has framed these pricing adjustments as standard industry practice.
The rollout of the new Slackbot commences immediately and is expected to reach all eligible customers by the end of February, with mobile availability completing by March 3. While calendar reading and availability checking are available at launch, the ability to directly book meetings is "coming a few weeks after," according to Seaman. Image generation is not currently supported but is "something that we are looking at in the future," Bauer noted. Salesforce representatives declined to provide specifics on integration with competing CRM systems like HubSpot and Microsoft Dynamics, acknowledging the competitive implications.
The Conversational Future of Work

Harris highlighted the transformative power of LLMs applied to unstructured information. "One of the revelations for me is LLMs applied to unstructured information are incredible," he said. "And the amount of value you have if you’re a Slack user, if your corporation uses Slack — the amount of value in Slack is unbelievable. Because you’re talking about work, you’re sharing documents, you’re making decisions, but you can’t as a human go through that and really get the same value that an LLM can do."
Looking ahead, Harris anticipates the evolution of user interfaces beyond purely conversational models. "We’re kind of saturating what we can do with purely conversational UIs," he suggested. "I think we’ll start to see agents building an interface that best suits your intent, as opposed to trying to surface something within a conversational interface that matches your intent."
Microsoft, Google, and a growing cohort of AI startups share this vision, betting that the most successful enterprise AI will be seamlessly embedded within the tools workers already use, rather than requiring adoption of yet another application. The race to become this invisible layer of workplace intelligence is now in full swing.
For Salesforce, the stakes extend beyond a single product launch. After a challenging year on Wall Street and persistent questions about AI’s potential to disrupt its core business, the company is wagering that Slackbot can prove the opposite. It posits that the tens of millions of people already collaborating in Slack every day constitute not a vulnerability, but an unassailable advantage. Haley Gault, a Salesforce account executive, perfectly encapsulated this shift: "I honestly can’t imagine working for another company not having access to these types of tools. This is just how I work now." That sentiment is precisely what Salesforce is counting on to cement its position in the AI-driven future of work.
