Amazon Gears Up for 5th Annual Business Buyer Conference, Expanding Seller-Driven B2B Features

Amazon is actively expanding its B2B marketplace by integrating third-party sellers more deeply into its Amazon Business platform and is set to host its fifth annual conference for business buyers this fall. The "Amazon Business Reshape" conference, scheduled for October in Nashville, is designed to attract leaders and decision-makers from procurement, finance, IT, operations, and supply chain roles. The event aims to provide attendees with insights into innovating, learning, and exchanging knowledge with peers navigating the dynamic procurement landscape.

The e-commerce giant is increasingly relying on its network of third-party sellers to enhance its appeal to business customers. In a significant move impacting seller operations, Amazon will begin implementing penalties for sellers whose shipping carriers deliver packages outside the specified business hours of their Amazon Business program enrollees. This new policy, set to take effect in September, will be measured by the Business Hour Delivery Rate (BHDR). This initiative underscores Amazon’s commitment to meeting the precise logistical needs of business buyers, who often operate within strict timeframes.

Further demonstrating its dedication to optimizing the B2B fulfillment experience, Amazon has introduced a new pallet delivery option for Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM) orders specifically for Amazon Business transactions. This feature, rolled out this month, emerged from a pilot program where Amazon observed a strong preference among business customers for pallet delivery. During the pilot, 80% of business customers opted for pallet delivery when it was offered, frequently choosing it over expedited shipping alternatives.

Amazon is actively promoting the benefits of this new pallet delivery option to its sellers, highlighting its potential to drive increased sales volume, improve profit margins, and enhance operational efficiency. The company cited its own research, stating that "US FBA pallet orders generated an average of 16 times more revenue per order than non-pallet orders" according to their 2025 projections. This suggests a significant revenue-generating opportunity for sellers who can accommodate palletized shipments for business clients.

Amazon Holds B2B Conference as It Leans on Sellers to Appeal to Business Buyers

Amazon’s strategic foray into the B2B sector officially began in 2015, marking a significant diversification for the company that had initially launched as an online bookseller twenty years prior. The Amazon Business platform was established to cater specifically to procurement professionals within manufacturing, retail, and distribution industries.

By 2025, Amazon Business had achieved substantial growth, generating $35 billion in annualized gross sales. This figure was disclosed in a company blog post from the previous summer, which encouraged sellers to explore the B2B product market. The post provided examples of B2B products, defining them as "products that one business sells to another business to meet their needs." The article illustrated this with office supply stores selling items like printer ink, paper, pens, and legal pads to businesses, and commercial cleaning supply companies offering bulk cleaning products to hotels, gyms, and hospitals to maintain their facilities.

To further illustrate the sophisticated features available to business buyers, Amazon hosted a webinar last month, which is now available for replay on YouTube. The webinar showcased advanced functionalities designed to appeal to procurement executives. These features aim to simplify business purchasing processes and enhance efficiency within organizations.

Attendees of the upcoming two-day Amazon Business Reshape conference will have the opportunity to delve into various topics, including how artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing procurement intelligence. The conference agenda also includes discussions on the external forces that are actively reshaping the procurement landscape, providing valuable insights for professionals looking to stay ahead in a constantly evolving market. The integration of AI and the understanding of external market influences are key components for modern procurement strategies, and Amazon’s conference aims to equip attendees with this knowledge. The focus on AI suggests a move towards more data-driven and automated procurement solutions, aligning with broader industry trends. The conference will also likely provide a platform for networking and collaboration among industry professionals, fostering an environment for sharing best practices and addressing common challenges within the B2B procurement space. The expansion of seller-driven features, such as pallet delivery, indicates Amazon’s strategy to leverage its vast seller network to meet the diverse and specific needs of business buyers, further solidifying its position in the B2B e-commerce market.
