EBay Discontinues Auto Price-Reduction Feature, Leaving Sellers Seeking Clarity

Sellers on eBay are expressing confusion and frustration following the sudden disappearance of the platform’s Auto Price Reduction (APR) feature, a tool that allowed fixed-price listings to automatically decrease in price over time. The feature, which was officially announced by eBay in its October Seller Update, has become unavailable to many users, sparking discussions on industry forums and prompting inquiries to EcommerceBytes.

The APR feature was first noticed by some sellers in July, creating buzz as they began to utilize it without prior announcement. eBay eventually confirmed its existence in the October Seller Update, stating, "Our Auto Price Reduction feature automatically reduces prices for unsold listings to reach more buyers and help them sell." However, at the time of its announcement, clicking through to "read more" did not provide further details.

The mystery surrounding the feature intensified on Tuesday when it vanished for many sellers. On eBay’s discussion boards, a seller with "mentor" status responded to an inquiry about the missing feature, stating, "That feature has been discontinued. Some features on eBay come and go based on their success, failure or lack of use. Sorry that happened but one method to pricing is set your lowest price on your item(s) that you will sell for and cover eBay fees, your cost and most importantly, YOUR profit margin."

However, requests for official confirmation from eBay moderators on these threads were met with silence. This lack of clear communication left sellers uncertain whether the mentor’s statement was definitive or speculative, and whether the disappearance was intentional or a technical glitch.

A reader who reported the disappearance to EcommerceBytes on Thursday expressed a belief that the removal was intentional, theorizing, "Rather than support a free, seller-friendly automation that worked, eBay removed it and is pushing sellers toward paid promotional tools instead. Abruptly eliminating features sellers have already adopted undermines trust and highlights a growing pattern: useful seller tools are temporary, while monetized solutions are permanent."

eBay Disappears the Auto Price-Reduction Feature

As of Sunday, eBay’s help pages continued to reference the Auto Price Reduction feature. The assistance documentation described it as follows: "If you know the price you’d like to get for an item, but would still like to sell in an auction-style listing, you can add a Buy It Now price (an additional fee may apply). In the Pricing section of the quick listing tool, you can use the Auto price reduction option. You just have to set an amount to automatically lower the item price by every 3 days, as well as a minimum price you’re willing to reduce the item to."

The disappearance of the APR feature was also a topic of discussion on Reddit on Tuesday, with a thread titled, "Did eBay end the Automatic Price Reduction feature?" The original poster shared their experience, stating that the feature had been instrumental in driving sales and traffic to their over 200 listings. They noted, "I can’t seem to find confirmation anywhere online, but none of my 200+ current listings seem to have the feature anymore, and new listings don’t have that field available to enable this. I really enjoyed using this because it was basically a set it and forget it mode to drop prices by a set amount every 3 days which was bringing in a lot of sales and traffic."

The same Reddit user later updated their post after speaking with eBay customer service. They reported being told by an eBay representative that the feature had not been discontinued and that it was a "site wide issue" that had been "reported by many sellers." The representative allegedly stated that the account was added to a list for tracking the restoration of the feature. However, the user expressed skepticism, acknowledging that eBay phone representatives are "known to pass on incorrect information," and remained unsure what to believe, hoping for a resolution that would restore the functionality they relied on for managing discounts across their numerous listings.

Five days after the initial reports of the feature’s disappearance, sellers continued to lack access and await an official clarification from eBay.

An update on February 11, 2026, provided further clarification from eBay mentor mr_lincoln, who had previously commented on the issue. In an email to EcommerceBytes, mr_lincoln explained that he had updated his eBay board post to reflect new information confirmed by eBay. He stated that the Auto Price Reduction feature is indeed available on the Quick Listing Tool but is not accessible on the Advanced listing tool typically used through Seller Hub. The availability of the feature on the mobile app was not mentioned.

Mr. Lincoln elaborated, "So based on this information some sellers may see it as an option and others will not." He concluded by stating that he would share any further confirmed information from eBay and expressed his thanks for sellers’ patience and understanding. This clarification suggests that the issue may be related to specific listing tools rather than a complete discontinuation of the feature, though its absence from the Advanced listing tool continues to affect a significant number of sellers.
