Amazon sellers are currently navigating a period of significant uncertainty and confusion following the implementation of the new DD+7 (Delivery Date plus 7 days) policy. While Amazon had alerted sellers months in advance about the potential for a cash flow crunch and a temporary limitation on fund disbursements, the actual experience of many sellers since the policy’s March 12th launch has been marked by a lack of clarity and conflicting information. Instead of widespread reports of financial impact, the online seller community is buzzing with questions and shared experiences of unexpected outcomes.
The DD+7 policy, which standardizes account reserves to a 7-day period after a delivery date, was communicated to sellers in early February. Amazon’s official warning stated, "You may experience a one-time cash flow impact and temporarily limited ability to disburse funds on or around your migration date." This notification suggested a clear and predictable shift in payment processing. However, the reality on the ground has proven to be far more ambiguous.
Upon checking Amazon’s seller discussion boards and other online forums, the expected flood of posts detailing the financial repercussions of DD+7 has not materialized. Instead, a dominant theme has emerged: sellers are actively seeking information and clarification from their peers. A prime example of this is a thread initiated on March 15th on the official Amazon Seller discussion boards. The original poster expressed profound confusion regarding the practical application of DD+7, asking: "How do we know how much $ will be disbursed and held with DD+7? So I am still confused. How do we see what funds are held and those going to be disbursed? My sales are still all going to Funds Available scheduled to initiate on March 23. My account level reserve has not changed. No Reserved area is on my payments dashboard. The Deferred area is for B to B invoiced orders. There should be a better system. Anyone know?" This query encapsulates the widespread bewilderment, highlighting a lack of transparency in how funds are being allocated and held under the new system.
The responses to such inquiries have painted a fragmented picture. Some sellers reported that they believed they had not yet been migrated to the DD+7 policy. Conversely, other sellers who claimed to have been migrated shared a different experience. They indicated the emergence of a "disburse on demand" button, which allows them to request daily disbursements. This contrasts with the previous system, where sellers might have been subjected to fixed payout schedules, such as a two-week cycle, as reported by one seller. The availability of a "disburse on demand" option has been viewed as a positive development that could potentially mitigate the cash flow challenges anticipated by the longer hold periods.

However, even this anecdotal evidence of a "disburse on demand" feature has been met with inconsistencies. As recently as March 16th, a seller commented on the same thread, stating, "DD+7 was supposed to start on March 12 for me, but it didn’t. I got my full payout even for orders placed and shipped after March 12." This directly contradicts the expectation that the policy would be universally applied from the designated date.
The lack of official guidance from Amazon moderators has further amplified the frustration. A seller voiced this sentiment on March 16th, asking, "Where are the mods on this? I’ve just browsed more than half a dozen threads on the same topic, many of them several days old, and not once has a mod stepped in to clarify what the ???? is even going on?" This plea highlights a perceived communication breakdown between Amazon and its seller base, leaving sellers feeling unsupported and uninformed during a critical policy transition.
The confusion has extended to interactions with Amazon’s customer support. As of March 17th, one seller reported: "I’m in the EXACT same boat! No Disburse Now button, conflicting answers from Amazon support (first said technical issue, then claimed I wasn’t transitioned to DD+7 – total lies)." This experience suggests that even direct channels of support are providing inconsistent and potentially inaccurate information, exacerbating the sense of disarray.
Similar discussions and shared experiences are also surfacing on other seller-focused platforms, such as the "Sellers Ask Sellers" discussion board. In a thread titled "DD+7 and Disbursement on Demand," sellers are continuing to post their questions and recount their individual journeys with the new policy, further underscoring the widespread nature of the confusion and the urgent need for clear communication from Amazon. The prevailing sentiment among sellers is one of anticipation mixed with anxiety, as they attempt to decipher the implications of DD+7 on their businesses while grappling with a lack of definitive answers.
